Fighting the good fight of Faith

a cross representing Jesus Christ and faith

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I remember growing up and would often think life of being an easy road or a lack of difficulty and obstacles. However, as I got older, I quickly began to realize that life is often not fair, can be cruel, life happens, and bad things happen to good people. Whether it be a sickness, break up of a relationship or divorce, legal matters such a child custody fight, or fighting for things in your life that have meaning or important  to you. No, this isn’t a “physical fight”. It’s a spiritual one. That’s why it’s so vitally important you learn how to fight the good fight of Faith.

Life

Life

Life often posses challenges. Some are expected fights or circumstances that be expected and then sometimes, one will catch us off guard every now and again right out of the blue. I know for me, personally at least, this has happened on multiple occasions. We, as Christians are charged and challenged  to “fight” these battles by faith. In 1 Timothy 6:12 states ” Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. ” What that means to me and others is that we have to “fight” many of our battles by faith. Meaning, we have to hold onto God’s word and what he says about our life or circumstance, instead of what we might see. 2 Corinthians says “For we walk by faith, not by sight” 5:7 New King James Version (NKJV)

What that means to me and hopefully you too, is that sometimes we have to hold on to hope. We may be faced with a circumstance or situation that isn’t fair or right. We have to hold onto to hope and have “faith”, believing everything will work out in the end. Just one of many examples I could give you is my own custody battle that I, and many other fathers face and go through every single day in this nation and around the world. According to scripture,  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 King James Version (KJV)

Fighting for your child

Father child

To be completely transparent, I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding my fight or custody battle to be in my child’s life. I would miss weekend after weekend, year after year of court ordered visitations and nothing changed. For eight years this went on and then one day, finally it changed. I was awarded 50/50 shared custody. I say this because I know many fathers and dads out there want and desire the same thing. They just want to be an equal parent  and father to their child and spend time with them raising them. After all, it is their child and they have right to be in their lives. Statistic after statistic proves it’s in the best interest of the child.  At times, I thought it would never work out. Things would never change. But, I kept my faith in God and believed He would work it out. It wasn’t always easy. In fact, it has been the hardest journey of my life and we continue to fight and have legal issues to this day so I don’t want you to necessarily think that if you do end up being awarded 50/50 shared custody you’ve found the gold at the end of the rainbow or life decides to stop and revolve around you because you won 50/50 custody. Yes, having been awarded 50/50 custody the relationship with my child has improved drastically, I just wanted to give you fair warning there are still potential obstacles in your life and that may not be the end of your journey.
